The British Israel Law Association (BISLA) is a bilateral law association supported by the Law Society of England and Wales.  The purpose of BISLA, as with other bilateral associations, is to develop cultural, legal and social relations between lawyers in different countries.  This is particularly relevant in light of globalisation which has resulted in English solicitors and barristers, as well as members of the Israeli legal profession, becoming increasingly international in their outlook as well as in the nature of their work.

BISLA enjoys the support of the Israel Bar Association and has developed close ties through the establishment of a sister organisation, the Israel British Law Association (IBLA).

The objectives for which BISLA was established, as stated in its Constitution, include the following:

  • To promote fellowship and good understanding and improve relations between the legal professions in Israel and the United Kingdom.

  • To develop and strengthen legal, business and cultural links with Israel.

  • To encourage mutual collaboration between lawyers in the United Kingdom and Israel.

  • To assist in the training and education of Israeli lawyers and Israeli students studying law in the United Kingdom (and vice versa).

  • To create a directory for business networking.

  • To exchange information and ideas in relation to professional training, access to justice and other legal topics on a bilateral basis.

  • To organise conferences on specific areas of law.

  • To organise a programme of social events.

Although BISLA aims to serve lawyers in both countries, it is an organisation run by, and for, its Members and does not offer legal advice, legal training or recruitment services.  Nevertheless, through our extensive mailing list, it may be possible to make introductions, both in the United Kingdom and in Israel, to persons who might be seeking assistance in either jurisdiction.
